Regency Style Mahogany Game Table
The original finish was dull and dry. After cleaning and very slightly abrading the surface, the finish was re-worked; several very thin coats of a shellac solution were applied and worked on to create strong bond between the layers. Finally a hard varnish is polished to a fine and clear "mirror" finish. The rich colour and distinctive figuring of the grain in the wood is brought to life, leaving the wood with a beautiful lustre and sheen. Items that are French polished thrive best in rooms with a relative humidity of 68 to 70 percent. If a room is too dry, the finish starts to crack. With excessive moisture, the finish becomes hazy and milky. Click here to return to the main portfolio page.
