Japanese Shibayama Ivory Tusk with Silver Mounts

The tusk was in bad condition with a age-related cracks, shrinkage, and extensive losses to various applied stone and mother of pearl inlays. Cracks were stabilized and filled in with an appropriate material that matches the color, lustre, and texture of clean buffed ivory. Missing ornaments were recreated to fit exactly into the carved cavities. The texture, color, and crispness of reproduced elements is not noticeable to the naked eye. Every restored flower petal, leaf, and bird creates an accurate visual restoration. Click here to return to the main portfolio page.
